My late mother was my inspiration for getting into the home care business. She suffered from lung cancer for many years which made everyday living a challenge. Even simple things like getting dressed would cause her to be out of breath. As her illness progressed it became harder and more time consuming for me to take care of her and my responsibilities. I knew it would be a good idea to hire someone to help, but wasn’t sure where to look. I found this process very time consuming and disappointing. I quickly realized that an Agency was the best way to find trustworthy, skilled workers. I was than introduced to a woman who owned a small referral service in my area. She made it possible for me to keep my mother at home. I was forever grateful for her help and told her I had an interest in opening my own referral business. The creation of Golden Independence stems from this journey. She sold me her business that same year and I made a promise to her that I would continue to provide quality care for seniors at an affordable price. Within 2 years I created her single referral service into a multiple home care agency. Seeing the need and value I decided it was time to make these services available to as many people as possible, and franchising was the only way to do that.
