Attending Ryder University as a business major and MBA candidate, I could have pictured myself wanting to be Donald Trump's "Apprentice", but never taking children's pictures. On a wrestling scholarship, I was preparing for a career in the corporate world. After graduation, my friends did hit the corporate world while I continued my education toward an MBA. What my friends found out was that the "Corporate World" really is a jungle. Getting a job wasn't easy. When they did finally get a job, it wasn't the lifestyles of the rich and famous. It was starting at the bottom, working 50-60 or more hours a week, 50 weeks a year. And most important, they all hated the "politics" of climbing the "corporate ladder".

"I can't take pictures"
While in school, a friend of mind was working part-time for a school photography company. He only worked a few hours a day, was making good money and could still concentrate on his school work. He told me that they needed another photographer and I should apply. I told him, "I can't take pictures, I'm no photographer". He told me, "The owner would rather you not have photography experience. It's easy, he will take you on a couple of photo shoots and in a few days he will teach you everything you need to know."

"This would be the Perfect job."
I went to work for that school photography company. As my friend said, it took me about a week to learn what to do and it was great. I worked a few hours in the morning and then I scheduled all of my MBA classes in the afternoon. The best part was that during the Christmas break from school, I was also off from my job. Daycares and Preschools take pictures September through the second week of December and then they don't start up again until the second week of January. Four weeks off during the holidays was great. Then I had most of the summer off. I remember saying to myself, "This would be the perfect job." But I knew that I would have to go into the corporate world to have the financial future I wanted.

"I didn't need to have my MBA to see the financial potential."
Then one day I came back from a daycare photo shoot. I brought back the order envelopes as I did everyday and gave them to the owner. This particular day I had nothing to do so I sat in the office to talk with the owner while he emptied the order envelopes. School pictures are on a pre-paid system, which means that the envelopes from my two hour morning shoot had the payments enclosed. Envelope after envelope, I saw the owner take out cash, checks, and credit card orders. After he was done, he said, "Not a bad day - $1,500." As I sat in amazement, I started doing the math in my head. Two hours a day, five days a week, $1,500. dollars a day. I didn't have to have my MBA to see the financial potential. That night I thought about my college buddies who were killing themselves, who were unhappy and whose future was dependent upon their bosses, their company.

"A decision that would change my whole future."
This was the day I made a major decision that would change my whole future. I decided that I could achieve my financial desires and still have the lifestyle that most people dream of. I dropped out of the MBA program, borrowed some money and started Kids At Heart Photography.
