OVERVIEW
The Scotts LawnService was founded in 1998 with the acquisition of Emerald Green Lawn Care. As a division of the Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, Scotts LawnService provides individualized care and maintenance for its customer’s lawns through regularly scheduled applications. Scotts LawnService does not apply universal care or treatment programs to its customer’s lawns and our team of lawncare professionals go through rigorous certification before they are sent out to care for and maintain a customers property.
Scotts LawnService consists of both company owned and franchise operations. There are currently over 190 units in operation throughout the country and our goal is to have the US territories sold out by 2014. We are proud of both the company and franchise operations as they continue to keep America Green.
Scotts LawnService has been recognized for its efforts to provide environmentally friendly lawn care. All of our products are applied by equipment which is designed to use only as much treatment ingredients as is needed by each lawn. This stewardship has resulted in healthier, thicker lawns where the deeper roots create a better opportunity for water and nutrient absorption. Another Scotts Difference.
The Scotts LawnService Business Philosophy.
The lawn service industry services 10.5 million lawns in the U.S. representing 15% of American households, but accounting for 75% of the total lawn care dollars spent.
Scotts LawnService uses top quality, branded lawn products, applied by true professionals, in programs that can be tailored to meet the needs of the individual lawn, with applications made on time, and with the technical support to solve virtually any lawn problems that may arise.

DO I NEED TO HAVE ANY PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN THE GREEN INDUSTRY?
You don’t need any prior experience in the green industry, however we do seek franchisees what have a strong business management and customer service skills.
DOES SCOTTS LAWNSERVICE OFFER FINANCING?
Scotts LawnService will finance up to two-thirds of the franchise fee for qualified individuals. We also provide terms on the products that you will use while servicing your customers. Our objective is to ensure that you have available cash flow during the first 12-18 months so you can effectively promote your services to your market area.
DOES SCOTTS LAWNSERVICE OFFER A MUTI-UNIT FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY?
Scotts LawnService awards large territories to our franchisees. If you are successful with your first territory – you may request additional zip codes to extend your territory. In addition, you may purchase territories throughout the country that are available. Scotts LawnService does not offer a master area development program.
WHAT IS THE INITIAL FRANCHISE FEE AND ONGOING ROYALTY FEE?
The initial franchisee fee ranges depending on the size of the territory and the total number of single-family dwelling units (SFDU’s) in your requested territory.
Your ongoing royalty will range from 10% down to 6% based on your volume of sales.
HOW LONG WILL I BE AT TRAINING AND WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO LEARN?
Our initial training program consists of approximately four days of classroom and on-site training in Evansville, Indiana. In addition, you will spend one week at one of our corporate or larger franchise territories. Finally, you or one of your staff will spend 3 days learning the software that you will need to operate the back end of the business. Your training program is intensive and includes all aspects of running your LawnService business
WILL YOU ASSIST ME WITH ESTABLISHING MY VENDOR RELATIONSHIPS AND INITIAL INVENTORY PURCHASE? One of the greatest benefits of being a Scotts LawnService Franchisee is that you are privileged to use Scotts Miracle-Gro branded products. Our team will work side by side with you to ensure that you maximize your initial inventory purchase with projected sales based on our broad experience of opening new stores in various markets.
DO I NEED AN OFFICE AND HOW WILL I CHOOSE WHERE I SHOULD LOCATE MY OFFICES?
It is not mandatory that you have an office to start your Scotts LawnService business. You will need a storage facility for products, however initially; you can use home office for the backend accounting functions. We have significant data on the demographic characteristics of our existing customers. We understand the general location requirements that give you the best chance of reaching your customers efficiently based on your initial targeted markets. In the end, the choice of location is yours, but we would like to have significant input in the process.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO OPEN ONCE I HAVE SIGNED A FRANCHISE AGREEMENT?
You could begin operations in as little as 45 days after signing your agreement depending on your geographic location and the time of year that you sign your franchise agreement.
WILL YOU HELP ME WITH MY INITIAL MARKETING STRATEGY AND GRAND OPENING?
Yes. We will work with you to determine which marketing pieces will be mailed and how many you will mail in your initial mailing.
