Soccer Post D.C. Helps Donate to Moore, Oklahoma Soccer Community Through the Help of Vista Blackwatch
Soccer Post D.C. donated 30 soccer balls to Vista Blackwatch U13 Boy's Club who will send to South Lakes Soccer Club in Moore, OK.

On May 20, 2013 an EF5 tornado tore through Moore, Oklahoma. It caused $2 billion dollars worth of damage as well as injuring hundreds of individuals and killing 24. Among the 24 who did not survive this horrific disaster, were two young boys who played on a U9 team for the South Lakes Soccer Club. Both were in Plaza Towers Elementary School during the tornado.
Dramatic events such as the Moore, OK tornado tend to open the hearts of many, wanting to know what they can do to help. It didn't take long at all for Vista Blackwatch U13 soccer team from Northern Virginia to reach out. They contacted South Lakes Soccer Club at first and the initial conversation went to the tune of, 'We have lost everything and it's crazy here. We will need to assess everything and get back to you.' Patiently waiting, Vista Blackwatch received a second call which exposed the true magnitude of the disaster. This second call revealed that most of the soccer families have lost their homes, South Lakes Soccer Club has no equipment and lastly, we have lost two of our U9 players.
After that second phone call, Vista Blackwatch put out an all-out blitz to start collecting soccer balls. They planned to collect soccer balls from anyone in Northern Virginia and have local soccer clubs join in to write wishes and words of encouragement on each ball. After all the balls were signed and collected, they would be sent to South Lakes Soccer Club as way to show support and to know that people are behind them as they start to the road recovery. A simple soccer ball has the power to uplift spirits and bring people together during the best of times and the worst of times.
Soccer Post D.C. was approached by a Vista Blackwatch player and parent in their quest to get a soccer balldonation of any size. Within five minutes of conversation, words moved to action as to how to stuff 30 soccer balls into two cardboard boxes. 'We all have hearts and always want to help out when tragic events happen, but know that sometimes it can be difficult. The least Soccer Post D.C. could do was donate soccer balls to the children of Moore, OK who are going through a difficult time in their life. Soccer is a common language and can do great things to any individual,' says Eric Barden, General Manager of Soccer Post D.C. Along with Soccer Post D.C., UPS Store owner, Sang Hyun Kim, of the Greenbriar Town Center store in Chantilly, Fairfax, chipped in as well to cover shipping expenses to get the balls to Moore, OK. South Lakes Soccer Club is now one step closer to recovery with the support from Vista Blackwatch, various Northern Virginia soccer clubs, Greenbriar Town Center UPS andSoccer Post D.C.
