Spring-Green Lawn Care Continues Commitment to Veterans

November 9, 2010 - Veterans Day is always a special day for the franchisees and employees at Spring-Green Lawn Care as the company has deep military roots. Spring-Green’s Chairman Tom Hofer is a Navy veteran, many of the company’s franchisees are veterans and the company lends its assistance to various military causes every year.

Hofer wanted to make it easier for veterans to either get their start in or return to the business world but understood that a corporate environment may not be the best fit. He felt that the strong work ethic the military created made veterans the ideal candidates to grow the Spring-Green franchise system. His military background played an integral role in Spring-Green’s participation in VetFran, a subsidy program offered through the International Franchise Association that aids veterans in buying a franchise. Through VetFran, the company will apply up to $15,000 of the initial franchise fee toward start-up expenses designated or approved by the company.

“Those who have spent time in the military have the discipline to follow a proven formula for performance, the willingness to work hard and a strong belief in core values,” said Hofer. “The other intangible that veterans offer is the ability to make decisions: They have not only been trained to follow the rules and regulations of a system, but also how to react.”

Spring-Green has 11 military veterans who are now franchisees. Additionally, Spring-Green participates in GreenCare for Troops, a nationwide outreach program coordinated by New Prague, Minnesota-based Project EverGreen that connects local lawn and landscape firms with men and women serving our country in the armed forces away from home. To date, GreenCare has helped over 1,900 volunteers provide free lawn and landscape services for over 7,000 military families nationwide. The Spring-Green corporate office, like last year, plans to “adopt” a local military family to provide them with a wonderful holiday season with the help of food and gifts for children.

Founded in 1977, Plainfield, Illinois-based Spring-Green Lawn Care has been delivering both traditional and organic lawn and tree care services nationwide for over 33 years. Its service is centered on the beautification of local neighborhoods and communities with both residential and commercial customers. Spring-Green is an attractive opportunity for candidates who do not want to be tied to a storefront operation, retail hours or set appointments. Franchisees enjoy flexibility of schedule and an outdoor-based business with recurring revenue. Spring-Green currently has 118 franchises operating in 26 states.
