PRLog (Press Release) - Feb 23, 2012 -
The World Adult Kickball Association (WAKA) has awarded its third franchise to Cindy Honickman of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, who becomes the first female owner/operator in the nationwide organization’s new franchise program, launched last year. Honickman’s territory will include the existing WAKA leagues in the Durham-Chapel Hill area, including the NC Triangle kickball league, which is now open for spring season registration.

“As a young professional, it's often difficult to meet people outside of the college environment, where friends are around every corner,” said Honickman. “This is why I am excited to help create a social environment through the WAKA Kickball Durham-Chapel Hill franchise chapter. I hope to reach adults looking for a fun. Social sporting activity will build lasting friendships and create opportunities for fun, fitness and philanthropy throughout the year.”

Honickman is an accomplished marketing and public relations practitioner whose brand experience includes Ben & Jerry’s, Red Door Spas, Sonny’s BBQ, Ferman Automotive and Orthodontic Specialists of Florida. She is also a WAKA Kickball player who began playing five years ago in Florida and continues to play today.

“Cindy is a proactive entrepreneur with a decorated resume of great brand experience. She is passionate about owning her own business and helping bring a unique social experience to adults in the Durham-Chapel Hill area,” said Johnny LeHane, co-founder of WAKA and head of the company’s franchise efforts. “We are excited to welcome her as our third franchisee and first female owner/operator. We know that with her experience and knowledge, she is well on her way to taking adult kickball to the next level in her market.”

For more information on any of the leagues in the Durham-Chapel Hill area, please visit www.kickball.com.

WAKA’s franchise program leverages the organization’s nearly 15 years of success bringing fun and happiness to hundreds of thousands of kickball players across the country and offers one of the most exciting and affordable franchises in the marketplace. WAKA also recently launched its Franchise Referral Program, which awards $2,000 to those that refer a new owner/operator to WAKA through the program.

WAKA is currently qualifying franchise candidates in markets across the country. Franchise owners will be a part of a new lifestyle business as they enjoy working in their home office and heading to the local kickball field, rather than working in a cubicle. A WAKA franchise will allow driven entrepreneurs to combine their independent work ethic with all of the tools, support and training needed to build exciting leagues throughout their market. Franchises will be granted for metropolitan areas for fees ranging from $25,000 to $90,000+.

In 1998, a group of friends looking for a way to meet other young adults in the Washington D.C. area, started the first known adult kickball league. Nearly 15 years later, with corporate leagues in 35 states and more than 400 communities across the nation, WAKA has been named one of Inc. Magazine’s fastest growing private companies in America for the past two years and is recognized widely as the nation’s premier kickball organization.

Offering face-to-face interaction not easily found anywhere else, WAKA not only provides a recreation and social outlet for its players but gives them the opportunity for personal development through leadership, volunteerism and charity. The organization produces thousands of meaningful connections between people each year, including marriages, business partnerships and lasting friendships.

WAKA hosts the World Kickball Championship® Weekend in Las Vegas, the largest organized kickball tournament, played annually over Columbus Day Weekend.
