March 21, 2008 Wall Street Journal – Why Stores Are Accepting More Foreign Currency
“Amsterdam Falafelshop in Adams Morgan recently began to accept the euro…”
Does the dollar got you down? The plunging U.S. currency has prompted some shops in popular tourist areas such as Washington and New York to welcome foreign currency.
According to an a Washington Post article this week, the Amsterdam Falafelshop in Adams Morgan recently began to accept the euro and other foreign currencies from European travelers. The owners say they couldn’t afford to turn away these tourists who hadn’t visited a currency exchange or bank yet.
They posted “We Accept Euros” signs with conversion sheets kept near the cash register. Change is returned in dollars.
