The Celsius Tannery® story began with one tanning salon in May of 1995 when four friends (two couples) combined their dreams to create a dynamic business. As we opened our first salon in Independence, Missouri, all of us agreed that we wanted to create a tanning salon experience that was totally different from what people had come to expect.
We knew that our equipment was top of the line, and we wanted our salon to be the same. All of us had discussed our own likes and dislikes regarding the experiences we had had as tanning salon customers. We knew that for Celsius Tannery® to succeed we would have to educate our clients about the importance of using the finest products to tan. We also knew that we would have to create ways of doing business that would set us apart from the many other places that have tanning.
Today, Celsius Tannery® offers the premiere tanning experience. Each salon includes a comfortable lobby area, vanity and shower room, and more. The vanity contains all the amenities that you would find in fine salons and spas, including hair spray, body lotion, deodorant, contact lens cases and solution, make up remover, etc… We have clean, spacious showers, plush towels, and fluffy robes. We wanted our customers to feel welcome and pampered.
We are determined to attract and keep customers by doing more than our competitors. We envisioned an upscale salon that was truly a first-class operation. This required a large amount of capital, and we were willing to spend the money in order to make Celsius Tannery® the kind of business we wanted it to be. Because of our capital investment, customers are able to see an immediate difference between Celsius Tannery® salons and other tanning salons.

We also believe in the continuous education of our employees so that our staff is always knowledgeable about state and local regulations and smart tanning procedures. All employees are certified by The International Smart Tan Network, an educational program about light therapy. We want to send the message that tanning can be used for therapeutic purposes, as well as for cosmetic purposes.
Our prices are competitive, and we have special offers and packages for new customers entering our salons. Our marketing focuses on the fact that customers can expect to get a deeper tan in a shorter amount of time that will last longer than they could anywhere else. In addition, like any retail business, we choose our new locations carefully. In four years we have grown from one salon in Independence, to twenty salons throughout the extended Kansas City area.
